Pet Bragger

So, the place where DogMom works is gonna make a new special section in the newspaper called "Pet Bragger." It will feature pictures of people's pets. It costs $25 for one pet/one picture or $35 for multiple pets.

Part of the money collected will go to the Carver-Scott Humane Society (www.carverscotths.org) in Minnesota where we live. They help rescue dogs and cats like Opie and me who don't have a home.

Wanna put your pet's picture in? You can at www.swnewspapers.com/petbragger. But hurry, the deadline is October 9.

Bacon! It's Bacon!

DogMom always chuckles when the big grey box that talks in the cabinet in the living room shows the goofy dog and all he says is "Bacon! It's Bacon!" Well, she was laughing out loud last night.

See, when she went with Lara and Anne to wherever they went the other day - you know, when Lara grew wings and horns and flowers on her head - she said she bought us some special treats, but we thought she forgot cuz we never saw 'em.

Anyway, she opened up the bag last night and let us smell them. Hmmm... it was a really good smell... but I couldn't quite place it. Opie just wrinkled his forehead and turned his head sideways. We kept lookin' at each other and tryin' to figure it out. Then, it hit me...

Bacon! It's Bacon!

We went crazy running around in circles and tryin' to jump up and get one of these new bacon cookies. DogMom was just laughing hysterically and couldn't remember how to give us one. But then, she did. Boy, were they YUMMY!

Tea for 10,000?

OK, DogMom has gone totally off the deep end now.

Or, something big is brewing.

Or, she's in hot water.

Or, she's just really really thirsty.

Humans are such a strange breed.

Why would anybody need 10,000 tea bags? She says they're for work. Weird work if you ask me.

Can you help me understand what on earth these might be for? Please post your ideas or email DogMom at dogsayeview@aol.com.

Thanks. I hope I figure it out soon...

Remembering...

Aaaahhhh... we're really living the dog's life. I was remembering the other day about a time when...

Yo! Opie here. I'm really sick and tired of the way that Gomer seems to always tell stories. Just cuz he can type. I'm the one who can talk! So, now it's my turn!

I was dreaming last night about, um, about... well, um, I'm not sure what I was dreaming about. I can't remember. But I remember that I was dreaming. Well, actually, I don't remember. But DogMom said I was dreaming last night, so I must have been.

And, I felt really funny this morning when I woke up... like something happened, but I didn't know what. DogMom said she couldn't wake me up. I was yelping and running in my sleep. And then I cried a long time a really sad cry. And then I was running again. She said it lasted a really long time. I don't remember it.

I just remember waking up and feeling kind of insecure about everything. DogMom kept asking if I was okay and she gave me big hugs and let me be a cuddle-bug. It made me feel a lot better. Mom says I'm just a freakazoid and sometimes I need some reassurance. I don't know what that means, but as long as she lets me be a cuddle-bug and makes me feel better, she can say whatever she wants.

Company! We Got Company!

We were soooooo excited on Sunday! DogMom said that we were gonna get COMPANY! It always gets us so excited.

Well, it didn't ALWAYS get us excited. It used to scare the beejeebees out of me. Anybody new that came might be somebody that would kick me and beat me with the broom and spray me with the hose and worse. I'm more than six years old now (according to mom) and it's taken me almost all that time to realize that most of the people that mom knows LIKE dogs and especially like me... oh, yeah, and Opie, too. Nobody has hit me for more than six years, since I came to live with mom and Keiko before that.

Anyways, back to the story. Two of our bestest dogmom friends came to visit us yesterday. Anne - who belonged to Sasha Girl, and Lara - who belonged to Edgar. Sasha was the granddog at the apartments in Plymouth. She was the best. She kept everyone in line, but mostly liked to walk and play like us. Sasha took the walk over the rainbow bridge about a year and a half ago. We really, really miss her and wish Anne would get another dog.

Lara also came to visit. We haven't seen Lara in a long long time. DogMom said she moved to St. Cloud. I always look up at the clouds when we're walking, but I never see Lara there. I wonder if mom knows what she's talking about sometimes. Anyway, Lara and Lia and Larson got married and live in St. Cloud with Mark and his two girls. Edgar isn't there anymore, but I smelled Roscoe on Lara.

Anyways. Lara and Anne and Mom went somewhere yesterday. And when they came home, Lara looked a little different. I think they went to get her those wings and horns and flowers. I don't know why, but they did. Isn't she silly?

New Trial; Same Outcome

Well... that "Opie and me sure aren't going to have any fun for a couple of days" statement didn't stick in Dopey Opie's head very well. He's back in jail today for pulling another treat jug off the shelf, gnawing it open and eating all the treats inside. He only let me have a couple. That's okay with me, cuz I saw the box when mom brought them in and they were the low-fat, diet cookies -- not the really good cookies.

Anyway, mom saw the jar when she came in and just gave us "the look." You know the one... the one that makes you feel guilty even if you didn't do anything bad yet. Yeah, that one. Then she said she'd be able to tell who was guilty even though we weren't talkin.

I don't know how she figured out it was Opie. But she did. She kept calling him "Poopy Oopie" on our walk in the rain. He did seem to poop a lot. I think he stopped five times. He really has to get more organized about that.

Anyway, I get to lay on the floor and the couch today, but Opie's back in jail. At least until Randi comes, mom said. I hope so. It's boring around here when he's in jail.

Got Out of Jail Free (?)

Whew! Thanks, everybody, for emailing DogMom and posting comments about our jail experience. It must have worked, cuz mom let us out last night when she came home and everything seems to be back to normal now. Well, sort of. Opie and me sure aren't going to have any fun for a couple of days. At least I'm not! I don't want to go back to jail again.

Hey, Tosca! We're glad we metcha. Sounds like your dogmom and ours think a lot alike. She calls our jail crate our "room" too. It seems to be a multi-purpose room to me. When we're being good and doing our tricks, sometimes she tells us to go in our room and then lets us come right back out. When company comes, we usually have to go to our room and can't jump on them, at least at first we can't. When she's cleaning with the big green monster, sometimes I go in just cuz I feel safer there. (For some reason, she never goes inside with the big green monster.) And, of course, when we're in trouble, we have to go in.

Anyway, I like it in there. Opie not so much. I think he was spoiled before he came to live with us and had his own room. He doesn't like to be in there with me. If he's in by himself, he seems to like it. But he doesn't relax when he's in there with me. What a dope.

Anyway, hope we don't have to go back to jail for a while. It's more fun to lay around on the furniture!

We Need Jail Bail!

Um, sorry we didn't post yesterday... um, well, um, we were kind of preoccupied; yeah, that's it, preoccupied.

Sometimes when we have the most fun, DogMom seems to get the most upset with us. This was one of those times. We were just playing and having fun. And then we found out that mom's new warm-and-cuddle blanket had BIRDs (!) inside. Well, really, we didn't actually find any birds. By the time we finished looking, we figured out there were only feathers inside. But boy did we look hard!

Anyway... it was okay when mom first got home. We did our normal run and jump and play thing and then went for our walk and did our business. We tried to tell mom how much fun we had... she just kept saying, "You guys are wild boys today!"

We got especially excited when she started to go upstairs. But, boy, that didn't last very long... she wasn't nearly as excited about our game as we were. I think she was upset that there weren't any birds inside her blanket and there were only feathers. Yeah, that must be it.

Anyway... we're in jail now. Can you help us with bail?

Yea! It's Rest Day!

Whew! DogMom got up and did that routine... you know the one... where she gets dressed up in clothes we aren't allowed to jump on. We're really glad about that today. Cuz it means she'll be gone for a while wherever it is she goes during the day on these days.

See, it was an exhausting weekend. We walked and walked and walked. And mom, she kept getting out the big green monster and then moving furniture around. (That makes Opie really nervous!) And then she got out the other big noisy monster and made the carpets all wet. And then we went for another walk and then she put the furniture back, but not where it was before. (And that makes Opie really really nervous!)

Anyway, the house smells funny now. Doesn't smell like Opie and me anymore. So, we're glad that mom is taking the day off from playing with us so we can lay around everywhere and get our smells back in the carpet!

Not to mention the fact that all those walks and dodging the big green monster are totally exhausting!

(If you don't know what the "big green monster" is, check out the posting from August 15, 2006.)

High on Treats

Yum!

We noticed that DogMom's been a little stingy handing out the "special treats" and biscuits lately. I think she gets busy and forgets sometimes. Opie's usually pretty good at staring at her and making her remember eventually. He sits in front of the treat shelf and looks up. If she doesn't notice him for a while, he starts talking again.

Anyway, while she was away yesterday, we decided to just help ourselves. See, Opie's a really good jumper. It didn't really deter us that the treats were up high on top of the shelf that's as tall as the cold-storage thing that holds most of the people food.

He had to jump a few times, but eventually, he hit the shelf just right and the treat jar came bumbling down. It bounced a couple of times, but was heavy since it was full.

Then, it took us a while to gnaw off the lid. It was one of those tricky ones that is easy for humans but really hard for dogs cuz we can't grab and turn something with our paws. But, man, once we got the lid off it was pure, heavenly gluttony. Our tummies were really full.

We left two treats in the jar so DogMom could give them to us when she got home. Funny, she didn't seem overly impressed by that. Something about eating a whole gallon and thinking we should get MORE.

Snakes on a Rug

Come on, Opie! Get it! Get it!
No, run away! Run away!

Sneak up on it and grab it in your teeth and shake it!
Let me show you how... like this! Kill it! Shake it! Kill it!
No, run away! Run away and hide from it!

Toss it in the air and run after it!
No, run away!

Take it to DogMom and let her toss it in the air so you can catch it.

Hmmm... now THAT looks like fun! Can I play now?

Sure you can! Mom got us new toys! She calls them snakes. They are long and skinny tubes and have two little round eyes and a red tongue... Well, anyway, they did when she first pulled them out of the bag.

Now, they don't have any eyes or any tongues... but they are still just as much fun!

Staring Into Space

Sometimes, Opie and me just lay around and stare into space.

It could be for just a few minutes, or it could be for hours. Depends.

Usually, Opie stares at you when he wants something. Like if he stares hard enough and long enough, you'll eventually read his mind and figure out what he wants. If you take too long, he starts talkin to you. Not really talkin... with words or anything... he sounds more like the parents sound in Charlie Brown movies. You know what I mean... the wah-wah, wah wah wah wah sounds.

With me, it's usually because DogMom asks me to do something I don't particularly want to do. Or maybe I'm just being lazy and it's too much effort to get up right then.

Do you ever do this?

Bark Park! (Revisited)

So, a bunch of people asked mom how she got so many good shots of us at the bark park on Sunday. It's just that both Opie and me are so very photogenic! Especially Opie, but good thing for me that he's so afraid of the camera.

Anyway, not all of the pictures turned out... here a a few... some of which Opie and I wish DogMom didn't include, but she's the boss of us.

Bark Park!

Ok, so you call them off-leash areas here. But we grew up knowing them as bark parks, cuz that's what they're called in Arizona. You have to admit, bark park sounds like a whole lot more fun!

We love it at the bark park. We like it better when other dogs are there, but we went really early Sunday morning and I don't think it was really the bark park, I think it was the people park. Oh well, we got to run and play and that's the important thing!

Picked Up at Dog Pad

We're so happy when we stay at Dog Pad. Here's what we look and act like when mom comes to pick us up at Dog Pad after she's been away... We're really excited to see her!

And, here's what we look like for two days after we get home...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Whew! We were especially exhausted when we got home from Dog Pad this time. Pretty much we need about four hours of sleep after we get home for every day we stayed there. Since we were there five days, we'll be back to our usual selves sometime this afternoon, given that mom picked us up Tuesday afternoon.

It was so much fun! Aubrey is great! She played with us and fed us and took care of us so that Tory could go hunting with Mike and her dogs. Opie played hide and seek with Aubrey... well, it was more seek than hide... since he's not real good at hiding, but he's really really good at making people look for him.

I really like Aubrey... which, as you know, is saying something because most people scare the bejeebees out of me until I've been around them for a long time. But I was really happy, too, when Tory came back. Dog Pad is my favorite place besides home.

Mom said she'd put up some pictures as soon as she gets them out of the little box she points at us that makes a light flash. Don't know why they get stuck in there...

Mom's Locked Out!

I just don't get it. Mom took us out for a long walk this morning at 6:00 a.m. and then fed us like she always does. But then, she said she was takin' out the garbage and she didn't come back in... and she didn't come back in... and she didn't come back in.

I heard her wiggling the door. And then she walked to the back door and wiggled it. And then she went in the garage. But she wouldn't come in. I just don't get it.

Opie was being really good. He sat down and looked at her. He laid down. I did, too. But she still wouldn't come in.

Then, finally, at around 9:30 a.m., I heard Randi's car in the driveway. It seemed too early for Randi to come for a walk, but I'm sure it was her car. But Randi didn't come in, mom did. And then she took that little metal thing back out to Randi in her car.

I just don't get it.
